I'm Confused
The following entry is solely the opinion of the author, who does not expect anyone to agree.
I got up this morning and the headline in my GMail news RSS feed advised me that Amy Winehouse won 5 out of the 6 awards that she was nominated for. I don't think she has a terrible voice so I can buy the award for best female pop vocal performance. But when I read that she also won song AND record of the year for the track "Rehab", I became confused, then distraught. As a refresher, here were the nominees in both of those categories:
Record Of The Year
Rehab, Amy Winehouse
Irreplaceable, Beyoncé
The Pretender, Foo Fighters
Umbrella, Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z
What Goes Around…Comes Around, Justin Timberlake
Song Of The Year
Rehab
Before He Cheats
Hey There Delilah
Like A Star
Umbrella
Is anyone else confused about "Rehab" winning in both of these categories? To be honest, the Record of the Year category could have had some better nominees. In my little world... I guess "Umbrella" would have won Record of the Year and "Before He Cheats" would have won song of the year.
What is our world coming to when a song about avoiding rehab and find solace in a shot glass wins one of the major awards in its industry? I do NOT understand the fascination with this song, and I wish Amy Winehouse would have made better use of her talent then to sing about avoiding rehab for her issues. So many people use celebrities as role models that I get disappointed when someone becomes a celebrity based on encouragement of self-destructive behavior.
I don't know. Maybe she'll go get rehab eventually and sing a song about how awesome it was that she got help.
For those of you who are reading this and don't know the song, here's a video and a link to the lyrics.
Now for your opinion... do you think she should have won? Who would you have chosen?

As I understand it Song of the year is for the song writer, and record of the year is for the preformer..
Alas, I do not care for or about the Grammys, or any Hollywood award show.
That said, I can't even listen to that wretched acoustic nighmare "Rehab."
I like one of Amy's songs and I can't for the life of me remember what it is b/c all I have in my head is that retchid (that's totally spelled wrong) rehab crappy song.
Can you tell I disagree with it?
Song of the year is the song, the writers, the performers.
Record of the year has to do with everything from how big of a hit it was, the promotional team, the record label.
Think of the song as listening and the record as pop culture. Usually the same artist does not win both.
i really love amy winehouse, so i obviously think she was deserving of all 6 grammys. That being said, if I were her, I probably would have been embarrassed to sing Rehab considering the recent events in her life.
