"He guided me to Tennessee..."

We had a great time in Tennessee this past weekend, as I had mentioned before. Hubby really knows me to give me a trip to see the family for my birthday! Way better than any jewelry or flowers or anything like that - for me anyways. Just a great, relaxing weekend hanging out with the family.

Friday was pretty low-key once we got there. Mom was getting over a migraine so we took it easy during the day, but Friday night we went to a place called Hickory Falls and had some awesomely delicious barbecue. I had a pulled BBQ chicken sandwich and it was super tasty. Later that night we went in the hot tub and hung out with Mom for a while.

Saturday we went out to breakfast at Shonee's and my parents decided that embarassing me would be a good time. They got the staff to come out and sing "Happy Birthday" and we got a free hot fudge cake dessert. Thank goodness Becky was there with us for breakfast to help me eat it! And... the brought me a balloon. Yes, a balloon. After that Dad drove aimlessly around and we went to this lake called Percy Point and hung out there for a bit. There was a boat there that some guy had dolled up to look like a pirate ship complete with tattered sails and a pirate flag. That was pretty cool to see. Once we were done driving around aimlessly, we headed back to their house where Jim and Dawn met us. It was so great to have all 4 of us kids in the house at the same time because it rarely ever happens anymore (especially since I live so far away from them). Mom made a basic franks & beans dinner and then we went out to the Hall of Fame Lounge where my mom had a 30-minute gig. Jim met us there with his friend Jamie and we all hung out for a while. Jim dropped us off back at the 'rents house around midnight after a stop at Starbucks for coffees.

Sunday morning Mom made a great breakfast of eggs, sausage, english muffins, and hash browns. Then we went to the grocery store with them and stopped at Starbucks. In TN Starbucks is really the only place to get an iced coffee, but there are a bajillion places to get sweet tea. They serve sweet tea like water down there, it's ridiculous. It's a wonder any of the TN people have teeth left they drink so much sweet tea. I watched my dad and my sister power through it during meals out, it was crazy.

Anyways... after that we went back to the house. Mom made lasagne and Dad made meatballs (my favorites!), I made the garlic bread... and then some of my parents' friends that we had met the night before came over for dinner and a quick little birthday party. I got all 27 candles out with 1 blow - people were amazed. My parents' friends are pretty cool and I was glad I got a chance to meet them. Jim was able to make it after work, and after the friends left at 8:00ish we went in the hot tub and then watched the end of the Bears/Packers game. It was good to hang out with my brother and watch football and play cards, it's one of the things I miss about them living up here.

Monday we had some oatmeal and english muffins for breakfast and then Dawn and her boyfriend Ben came to pick us up and take us out to lunch. We went to the Olive Garden (their treat - they get a discount because they work there) and spent some time together. It was great to see them too; we didn't think they'd be able to hang out at all because of their work schedules, but they were able to work it out and make it over. Dad got home from work around 3:30ish and we hopped in the van to grab the plane back to Manchester.

It was great to see everyone and hopefully it won't be too long before we see them all again. It's hard where they live so far away, so the time together just becomes that much more important when we're able to get down there. Here are a couple of pics from the weekend - hope you all had a great weekend as well!

Now that I think about it, there was no water at the wedding in SC. All they had were too big things of tea -- one sweet and one not.

Man, that sweet stuff is hard core. I took one sip and switched to the unsweetened tea. Yuck!

I'm glad you had a good time. Now, what's the difference between Iced Tea and Sweet Tea?

Sweet Tea is much, much sweeter than we here in the Northeast know iced tea to be. If you want the lightly sweetened tea that I know and love in New England, you have to order an unsweetened tea and then add your sugar/splenda/equal yourself.
